Veolia has been working in partnership with Bromley Council since 2001 to provide environmental services. In 2019, Veolia was awarded an eight year contract to deliver street cleansing services, recycling and waste collections and disposal and to manage the Reuse and Recycling Centres at Waldo Road and Churchfields Road. In 2021/22, Bromley became the top recycling borough in London, thanks to our strong partnership with Bromley Council, high quality services and effective resident engagement.
As part of the collection service, Veolia services around 145,000 properties and provides a weekly food waste collection service, fortnightly general waste collection and alternate-weekly collections of dry recycling, with paper and card collected one week and plastics, glass, tin and cans the next.
The street sweeping frequency for roads within the borough is directly related to how busy they are. This means that main roads and busy town centres are cleaned more frequently than say a quiet residential road.
The Reuse and Recycling Centres at Waldo Road and Churchfields road attract over 30,000 residents every month. Veolia manages the sites and ensures residents have the opportunity to recycle a wide range of materials including textiles, electricals and batteries.
Veolia also provides a bulky items collection service to all Bromley residents. Residents with items that cannot be taken to their local Reuse and Recycling Centre, can book a collection. For more information, please visit bromley.gov.uk/bulkyitems.
To further support the contract and help residents manage their waste, Veolia’s dedicated Education, Communications and Outreach (ECO) team work closely with the community through a number of different projects and campaigns. Through their project work, the ECO team aims to minimise waste, increase recycling and support residents in leading sustainable lifestyles.
